ANAHEIM III RESULTS
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS
ROUND 6, ANAHEIM III
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – After escaping the typical rain at last weekend’s race in San Francisco (it was the first dry race
there since 2003) the skies opened up last night on Angel Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. during round six of the AMA
Supercross Championship. The rain and cold did not deter the 43,812 fans who came to the see the third and final stop of
the tour in Anaheim for 2009. The course was covered with plastic and a special delayed and shortened practice schedule
was run in an attempt to keep the track in the best possible condition given the weather.
JGRMX Toyota/Yamaha tuner Alex Ewing made special preparations for Josh Grant’s Yamaha YZ450F, including
strategically placing foam in areas likely to allow mud to pack and weigh down the motorcycle, as well as hand guards to
deflect slop and water away from Josh’s hands and controls. Grant qualified easily for the main event with a strong second
place finish in his heat race. Grant started the main in second place, and remained in podium position until close to the
halfway mark when a mistake on the treacherous track caused him to fall and remount in sixth. On lap 12 Grant moved
back into the top-five and on lap 17 into fourth. By this time heavy rain was falling and the track was deteriorating rapidly.
On the last lap Grant went to pass for third but found the slick surface unforgiving. In spite of running off the track while
attempting the pass, Grant was able to still finish fifth, retaining third in series points. After six rounds the Supercross Class
(450cc) standings are:
1. Chad Reed 130
2. James Stewart 127
3. Josh Grant 111
The original broadcast from Anaheim will air today on SPEED at 2:30 p.m. (EST). The next round of the series will be Feb.
14 in San Diego, Calif. at Qualcomm Stadium. The original broadcast for the Supercross Class will be on Feb. 15 at 12:00
p.m. (EST) on CBS.
