SAN FRANCISCO RESULTS
MONSTER ENERGY AMA SUPERCROSS
ROUND 5, SAN FRANCISCO
HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. – The San Francisco round of the AMA Supercross Championship is typically a mud race, as the
damp northwest rarely spares this annual stop on the tour from rain. The 39,414 fans who came to AT&T Park on Jan. 31
for round five of the series were fortunate that this year there was no precipitation and the track was in perfect condition.
JGRMX Toyota/Yamaha’s Josh Grant started the evening with a heat race win, transferring directly to the main event. In
the main, Grant continued his strong starts rounding turn one in fifth. On lap five Grant passed Mike Alessi for fourth, and
rode steadily to the checkers in that position. Grant, a rookie in the premier division, has not finished outside of the top-five
since he started the season with a win at the opener in Anaheim, Calif. on Jan. 3. After five rounds the Supercross Class
(450cc) standings are:
1. Chad Reed 108
2. James Stewart 102
3. Josh Grant 95
JGRMX Toyota/Yamaha’s second rider, Cody Cooper took some time off to recover from a badly bruised leg and a minor
concussion sustained during the Houston round Jan. 24. His condition will be evaluated on an ongoing basis and he will
return when he is cleared by the team’s physicians.
The original broadcast from San Francisco will air today on CBS at 2:00 p.m. (EST). The series returns to Angel Stadium
in Anaheim, Calif. for the third and final time in 2009 for round six of the 17-race series Saturday, Feb. 7. The original
broadcast for the Supercross Class will be on Feb. 8 at 2:30 p.m. (EST) on SPEED.
